RATIFY BIRTH CONTROL

September 26, 2024, was a monumental legislative day in New York City for millions…of rats. The $3.5 million bill — Bill 736, also known as “Flaco’s Law” — implemented rat contraceptives in areas where trash is containerized.

Ironically enough, around the same time rats got free government-funded birth control, the same right was denied to women across the country with the blocking of the Right to Contraception Act. This bill would federally protect and provide women with better contraceptive access.

Since it’s easier to get birth control as a rodent in New York than it is as a woman in most of the country, we decided to make a statement to raise awareness of this stark contrast: Ratify Birth Control.

If women want free birth control in this country, women must become rats (not literally, of course).

Humor has a rather interesting ability to drive change, so our rats traveled through NYC for the week to raise awareness of our Rat Rally, which took place on World Contraception Day (Friday, September 26, 2025), which was also the one-year commemoration of NYC’s free rat birth control.

Over 100 people showed up to the rally, some coming in costume with others receiving a mask from us to transform into rats in an effort to get the same rights as rats.

A big thank you to our friends at The Radical Agreement Project for the helping hand at the Rally.
